Blink-182
Blink-182 reunited in 2009 for a successful U.S. tour. The band had wanted to put out an album before the tour, but logistics kept that from happening. So 2010 could be a year when we see a new Blink record – actually, we could see two. The band will be working on a record but so will drummer Travis Barker, who is hoping to put out his first solo disc at some point.
The Dead Weather
Jack White must require less sleep than his peers. How else to explain the fact that he’s part of three active bands – and that the newest of those groups, the Dead Weather, have decided to record another disc so soon after their 2009 debut, Horehound? Because the Dead Weather came together almost by accident, it seemed unlikely that the band would continue beyond Horehound. But they very quickly turned around their sophomore release, Sea of Cowards.
Deftones
For Deftones, the path to completing their latest album has been particularly difficult. In November 2008, in the midst of the band’s work on their next record, bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a serious car accident, which left him in a coma. Picking up the pieces, the band decided to shelve the songs they had written for what was going to be called Eros and returned to the studio to start over. That new record, Diamond Eyes, came out in May.
The 'Eclipse' soundtrack
The first two Twilight films have been very popular, so there was no reason to expect that the third installment, Eclipse, would be any different. Eclipse the film came out June 30, 2010, with the soundtrack hitting stores June 8. The original Twilight soundtrack went double-platinum, and the New Moon soundtrack went platinum. We will wait to see how well the Eclipse album performs.
Foo Fighters
Glasvegas
Hole
Initially, Nobody’s Daughter was going to be a Courtney Love solo album. But after years of reworking and revamping, Love decided to put out the record under her old band’s name on April 27, although she did not include any of her old band members in on the project.
Kid Rock
Kid Rock had wanted to release his follow-up to Rock N Roll Jesus in the fall of 2009, but after consulting with his producer, Rick Rubin, he decided that he wanted to rework some of the material and write some new tunes as well. You can understand his desire not to rush the album – Rock N Roll Jesus proved to be his most commercially successful effort since 2001’s Cocky, so he wants to make sure he keeps things rolling on his next disc, which will be called Born Free.
Kings of Leon
Kings of Leon will try to build on the success of 2008’s Only by the Night with their next album, Come Around Sundown, which will come out in October. Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill has said that the Tennessee quartet were going to try to be “more adventurous” on their next album and mentioned that the new songs sound like everything from the Band to Radiohead to Thin Lizzy.
Korn
While we continue to wait for frontman Jonathan Davis to unleash his long-in-the-works solo album, Korn put out their next album, Remember Who You Are, on July 13. The album finds the band reuniting with producer Ross Robinson, who was behind the board on the band’s first two records.
