Top 10 Billboard Rock Songs - Week of October 9, 2010

From , former About.com Guide

Remember how Linkin Park had been dominating the Billboard Rock Songs chart for weeks with "The Catalyst"? No longer: Two weeks after ending their month-long stay at No. 1, the band are no longer even in the Top 10. That's a fast descent, but it makes room for one new song onto our list.

Phoenix drop another notch this week. It's now been almost 17 months since Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was first released, but the band's fans shouldn't get too antsy yet about a new record: Phoenix went three years between this record and their last.

"Tighten Up," the first single from Brothers, makes its debut in the Top 10. The Black Keys continue to raise their profile this year thanks to their set at Lollapalooza and an album that peaked at No. 3, the blues-rock duo's best chart effort ever.

6. The Dirty Heads Featuring Rome - "Lay Me Down"

An example of the interesting quirks that can happen in chart runs, "Lay Me Down" actually rises one spot this week to No. 6. But this Dirty Heads song's downward trajectory over the last few weeks suggests that this is just an anomaly and that the summer anthem will be on its way out pretty soon.

After four weeks at No. 3, "Nightmare" loses some steam and falls two spots. The metal band are in the process of wrapping up their stint as part of the Rockstar Uproar festival, but they'll start a European tour on October 20.

Mumford & Sons move up one more notch this week to No. 4. In an interview earlier this year in The Guardian, frontman Marcus Mumford said of the folk-rock group's live shows, "I find it easier to sing songs over and over if they feel honest, if we feel passionate about them."

Two weeks after holding down the top spot, Disturbed are still sitting pretty at No. 3 with "Another Way to Die." On the album side, Asylum remains a strong seller, residing at No. 15 four weeks after its release.

Easily the biggest surprise recently on the Rock Songs chart is the seemingly unstoppable momentum of Neon Trees and their breakthrough single, "Animal." Rising two more notches, "Animal" is now at No. 2, battling it out with much better established rock acts for the top spot.

Stone Sour have the biggest rock song in the land for the second straight week. Audio Secrecy's lead single, "Say You'll Haunt Me," holds on to the No. 1 spot, but the hard rock group might want to watch out for some Neon Trees coming up behind them fast.
