Top 10 Billboard Rock Songs - March 10, 2012

From , former About.com Guide

There are no new entries in the Top 10 of this week's Billboard Rock Songs chart, but it's looking very likely that we may have a new No. 1 song very soon. Let's start the countdown, which features bullies, satellites, lonely boys and some walking...

10. Coldplay - "Paradise"

Coldplay's "Paradise" arrived on our countdown back in October, eventually getting as high as No. 3. But now the Mylo Xyloto hit seems to be ending its Rock Songs run: This week, it drops two more places to No. 10.

9. Rise Against - "Satellite"

"Satellite" rises one notch this week to No. 9. Rise Against recently contributed to Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan, a collection of Dylan cover songs. (They chose to play "Ballad of Hollis Brown" for the album, which benefits Amnesty International.)

8. Bush - "The Sound of Winter"

When last we saw Bush, things weren't looking good. Their hit single, "The Sound of Winter," had just dropped three spots to No. 9, its future in the countdown seeming pretty uncertain. Well, this week they pull out of that tailspin: The track from The Sea of Memories bounces back up to No. 8.

7. Foo Fighters - "Walk"

"Walk" was the second single off Wasting Light to go to No. 1 for Foo Fighters in 2011. So far this year, it's been content to just hang out in the middle rungs of the Top 10. The single places at No. 7 this week, dropping one spot.

6. fun. - "We Are Young"

Last week, fun. had our highest debut with "We Are Young." In their second week on the countdown, the indie-pop trio move up one place to No. 6. Their new disc, Some Nights, just debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart.

5. Chevelle - "Face to the Floor"

Hats Off to the Bull was one of last year's best rock records, and its first single, "Face to the Floor," had a strong run on the countdown, peaking at No. 3. Unfortunately, that run is currently on its downward slope. The Chevelle hit falls one spot to No. 5.

4. Shinedown - "Bully"

"Bully" continues its steady rise up the chart. This week -- its sixth in the Top 10 -- the Shinedown smash moves from No. 5 to No. 4. The band will be taking part in this year's Avalanche tour, which kicks off March 27 and includes Adelitas Way on the bill.

3. Foo Fighters - "These Days"

It appears that "These Days" won't be Foo Fighters' third No. 1 hit from Wasting Light. After seven weeks at No. 2, the track loses ground, falling back to No. 3.

2. Gotye (Featuring Kimbra) - "Somebody That I Used to Know"

Seven weeks ago, "Somebody That I Used to Know" entered our countdown at No. 10. In a short span of time, Gotye's indie-pop smash has risen to No. 2, with the top spot very much in its sight.

1. The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy"

But if Gotye wants to hit No. 1, he's gonna have to knock off our current champions. For a 12th straight week, the Black Keys' "Lonely Boy" is the king of the Rock Songs chart. The duo had one other song, "Tighten Up," hit No. 1 for 12 weeks, but those were nonconsecutive weeks. As far as "Lonely Boy" is concerned, there are two important questions left to answer: (1) How much longer can it hold on to No. 1?; and (2) where did it rank on my list of the Black Keys' 10 Best Tracks?
