On this week's Billboard Rock Songs chart, we don't have any room for M83's "Midnight City," which falls out of the Top 10 after a 10-week run. In its place comes some more indie-rock, but No. 1 still belongs to a veteran rap-rock unit...
10. Imagine Dragons - "It's Time"
The catchy indie tune "It's Time" is this week's sole debut, landing at No. 10. It's from the new Las Vegas quartet Imagine Dragons, who self-released several EPs before putting out February's Continued Silence through Interscope. They'll be touring across the U.S. with AWOLNATION in September and October.
9. fun. (Featuring Janelle Monae) - "We Are Young"
Congratulations to fun., whose "We Are Young" has now been certified quintuple-platinum. That doesn't help them much on our countdown, though: The former No. 1 hit drops one spot to No. 9. Meanwhile, the follow-up single, "Some Nights," is at No. 13 and waiting to crack the Top 10.
8. Chevelle - "Hats Off to the Bull"
"Hats Off to the Bull" climbs up a notch to No. 8. The alt-rock trio Chevelle will be taking part in the first-annual Monster Energy Aftershock Festival alongside Stone Temple Pilots in Sacramento on September 23.
7. Of Monsters and Men - "Little Talks"
For a second week in a row, "Little Talks" hangs out at No. 7. This Of Monsters and Men smash features horns and accordion, drawing comparisons to a similar folk-rock group, the Decemberists.
6. Soundgarden - "Live to Rise"
It's laudable that Soundgarden aren't rushing to put out a reunion album, but with the success of "Live to Rise," you have to assume that some fans would love to get their hands on a full disc from the band. On our countdown, "Live to Rise" is at No. 6 for a second consecutive week.
5. The Offspring - "Days Go By"
"Days Go By" had been breezing up the countdown, but this week the latest from the Offspring hits a bit of a snag. The title track from their forthcoming album stalls at No. 5.
4. Gotye (Featuring Kimbra) - "Somebody That I Used to Know"
Gotye (with an assist from vocalist Kimbra) commandeered the top spot on the Rock Songs countdown for seven out of eight weeks with "Somebody That I Used to Know." Recently, though, the Making Mirrors track has been very gradually moving down the chart. This week, the melancholy breakup tune falls one place to No. 4.
3. Grouplove - "Tongue Tied"
Could "Tongue Tied" hit No. 1? Grouplove's hit has been on the countdown for more than two months now, but it never looked like it had the sort of undeniable momentum that would catapult it into the top spot. But this week, "Tongue Tied" moves up another notch to No. 3. (On the Alternative Songs chart, it just reached No. 1 this week.)
2. The Black Keys - "Gold on the Ceiling"
"Gold on the Ceiling" has now been at No. 2 for five straight weeks. By comparison, Foo Fighters held down the No. 2 spot for seven weeks with "These Days," and Seether was our runner-up for nine weeks with "Country Song." None of those songs ever got to No. 1.
1. Linkin Park - "Burn It Down"
Nothing can stop Linkin Park from the No. 1 spot for a sixth straight week. "Burn It Down" is the lead single from Living Things, and now that I've heard the album, I feel confident saying it's easily one of the best tracks on the disc.
