Top 10 Billboard Rock Songs - April 21, 2012

By , About.com Guide

Before we dive into this week's Billboard Rock Songs chart, let's take a moment to mourn Five Finger Death Punch, whose "Remember Everything" exits the Top 10. Their absence paves the way for a booty-shaking track to make its appearance. But can anyone knock off "Somebody That I Used to Know"?

10. M83 - "Midnight City"

The dance collective fronted by Anthony Gonzalez that's known as M83 is our only new entry this week. "Midnight City" was one of last year's most acclaimed tracks, and it lands at No. 10 on our chart.

9. Chevelle - "Face to the Floor"

This may be the last we hear from "Face to the Floor." The Chevelle single drops two more spots to No. 9 this week. The song entered our countdown 24 weeks ago -- ironically, at No. 9.

8. Seether - "No Resolution"

Last week, Seether had our highest debut. This week, "No Resolution" shows no movement, holding at No. 8 for a second consecutive week. Trivia Tidbit: Seether frontman Shaun Morgan has said that Kurt Cobain's music inspired him to get into music.

7. Grouplove - "Tongue Tied"

Grouplove are one of two acts in the Top 10 who jump up two spots this week. Their hit single "Tongue Tied" climbs from No. 9 to No. 7. The Los Angeles quintet have only been around for a couple years, putting out a self-titled EP back in 2010. "Honestly, we put that initial EP together just for fun," guitarist Andrew Wessen said recently. But after it started generating some buzz, the group had to decide whether they wanted to get serious about being a band. "We decided to go for it," Wessen said, "and it hasn't stopped since."

6. The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy"

"Lonely Boy" is quickly losing momentum. The former No. 1 hit from the Black Keys drops to No. 6 after two weeks at No. 4. The band members recently hung out with Anthony Bourdain on his No Reservations show.

5. Foo Fighters - "These Days"

Foo Fighters couldn't crack the top of the Rock Songs chart with "These Days," but it's proved to have a long life on our countdown. In its 21st week in the Top 10, the Wasting Light cut holds at No. 5 for a third week in a row.

4. The Black Keys - "Gold on the Ceiling"

Our other high climber this week is "Gold on the Ceiling," which bounces up from No. 6 to No. 4. The Black Keys will be playing Coachella, but now comes word that they're also slated for this summer's Lollapalooza.

3. Shinedown - "Bully"

If "Gold on the Ceiling" wants to get any higher on our countdown, though, they'll have to smash through the logjam in the top three, which starts with Shinedown's "Bully." For a third straight week, the first single from Amaryllis is sitting tight at No. 3.

2. fun. (Featuring Janelle Monae) - "We Are Young"

On just about every pop chart you see, fun. is at No. 1 with their single "We Are Young." But the Rock Songs chart remains resistant to giving the trio the crown. The track hangs out at No. 2 for a third consecutive week.

1. Gotye (Featuring Kimbra) - "Somebody That I Used to Know"

For a month now, Gotye has ruled our countdown. It was only 13 weeks ago that the indie singer-songwriter crashed our chart at No. 10 with "Somebody That I Used to Know," and he quickly rose up the ladder, defying observers (like me) who assumed that the song simply wasn't "rock" enough to reach No. 1. Shows you what I know.
