No New Pearl Jam Album Yet, but Stone Gossard Unveils Solo Record Plans

By April 17, 2013

It's been four years since Pearl Jam put out their last studio album, Backspacer. Since then, the band members have talked about working on a follow-up, but there hasn't been much concrete news to report lately. Well, if you simply can't wait for new music from these guys, you might be happy to know that guitarist Stone Gossard plans on releasing a solo record. However, it'll be arriving in an unconventional way at first.

On Tuesday, Gossard revealed that his album Moonlander will be coming out on a song-by-song basis. The first track, "I Need Something Different," was released yesterday, and every Tuesday will see the rolling out of another Moonlander song through a special section of Pearl Jam's website.

"Over the last year, I went through all of my old demos and recordings that weren't used as Pearl Jam or [Gossard's other band] Brad songs and picked my favorites," he explained in a statement about Moonlander's genesis. He definitely has material stored up: According to Gossard, the tracks span about eight years. (His last solo album was 2001's Bayleaf.)

If you're not interested in going this unique route to hear the music, you can wait to buy the album in its entirety on June 25. As for Pearl Jam, well, we're still waiting for an idea of how the new record is progressing.

Moonlander Track List:

  • "I Need Something Different"
  • "Moonlanding"
  • "Both Live"
  • "Your Flames"
  • "Battle Cry"
  • "King of the Junkies"
  • "Remain"
  • "I Don't Want to Go to Bed"
  • "Bombs Away"
  • "Witch Doctor"
  • "Beyond Measure"
