Beady Eye Releasing 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' Follow-Up in the Summer

By April 10, 2013

When Oasis announced that they were calling it quits in 2009, the news was a shock in their native U.K., which had long enjoyed the ongoing exploits of singer Liam Gallagher and songwriter Noel Gallagher. In the U.S., Oasis hadn't been as big as they had during their '90s heyday, but still there was curiosity about which brother would emerge as the bigger artist in the wake of the split. Right now, at least in the States, it's been something of a draw. In 2011, Noel put out the mediocre Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, while Liam formed a new band, Beady Eye, and released Different Gear, Still Speeding. Neither album was a huge hit in the U.S., but the Gallaghers' homeland was far more welcoming. Now Beady Eye are about ready to put out their second disc.

NME reports that the album will be called BE. In the U.K., it will arrive June 10, although it's unclear when the Stateside release will occur. Also worth noting is that the album was produced by TV on the Radio member Dave Sitek, who also worked on Jane's Addiction's comeback disc The Great Escape Artist.

As for a taste of what to expect from BE, Liam said in a statement, "[Sitek is] without a doubt the best producer I've ever worked with, a real outlaw -- he doesn't give a [expletive], no rules. We had a new found focus when we were writing it -- we really got our heads down and got our [expletive] together -- clear heads, none of that crap from the '90s. It feels like a really special record for us." It will be no surprise to anyone who's followed the Gallagher brothers over the years that even in his official statement, Liam sure swears a lot.
