Queens of the Stone Age
haven't released an album since 2007's Era Vulgaris
, and since then they've been teasing their fans with the possibility of a new record. As far back as 2010, frontman Josh Homme talked about the follow-up, saying
"It's all about wiggling hips" and also suggesting "I'm looking for explosions and fireworks and grand finale, I don't really care how we get to that." The hope was that the album would arrive in 2011. That didn't happen. But after months of recent news items about starry guest cameos
, yesterday we finally got confirmation of the album's release -- and its title.
As mentioned by Spin, the new album will be called ...Like Clockwork and will arrive in June through Matador, QOTSA's first record with the well-respected indie label.
There's no track list yet, but ...Like Clockwork's June release means that it will come out just about exactly six years after Era Vulgaris. That disc was a big summer hit among rock fans. The betting is that ...Like Clockwork will as well.
