I haven't yet seen Sound City, the documentary that Dave Grohl made about Sound City Studios. Part of me worried that it's going to be a fairly predictable tribute to a legendary recording space that talks a lot about how "the kids these days" don't appreciate what used to make rock 'n' roll so good. But what's great about the accompanying soundtrack, Sound City: Real to Reel, is that it's just about great music. Grohl has invited his musical buddies, including Trent Reznor and Stevie Nicks, to bang out some songs using the famous Neve console that used to be housed at Sound City. Not every one of these 11 songs is a gem, but a lot of them are pretty darn great.
