Green Day had their struggles in 2012 thanks to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's rehab stint. (In happier news, they also released three albums: Uno!, Dos! and Tre!.) But in the new year, they're returning to the road, and they'll also be on the big screen.

Yesterday, the band announced that the world premiere of a documentary called Broadway Idiot will be happening at the annual South by Southwest film festival, which takes place in Austin, Texas, in March. As Green Day's announcement explains, Broadway Idiot "pulls back the curtain with lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong as he ventures into the strange new world of Broadway with their massive hit musical American Idiot."

The festival, better known as SXSW, will also screen Cuatro!, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of last year's trilogy of albums. We've known since last summer that this documentary was in the works, but there's no word at the moment about yet another film that's been mentioned, one that chronicles the history of the band from their earliest days. Regardless, Green Day will begin their tour at the end of March, hoping to regain the momentum they lost because of Armstrong.
