Queens of the Stone Age Album Adds Another Guest: Elton John

Queens of the Stone Age are presumably putting the finishing touches on their new record, their first since 2007. But while we wait for this much-anticipated album, we're still getting word about who all is guesting on the disc. We already knew that Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor will be lending a hand, but overnight it was revealed that Elton John is also part of the mix.

The news came out during Grohl's stint as guest host on Chelsea Lately. As reported by NME, Grohl had John on the show, and Grohl mentioned, "Recently, Elton and I recorded something together. Something that people wouldn't imagine the two of us doing together." Soon, they spilled the beans that it was a track on the new Queens disc. Grohl said that John asked at the beginning of the Los Angeles recording session, "Have you got a ballad for me?"

"And we were just like, 'No, we do not have a ballad for you,'" Grohl said.

This isn't the first time that John has worked with a hard-rock group. A few years ago, he contributed to the Alice in Chains comeback album, Black Gives Way to Blue. In that case, though, he was working on a ballad. Not this time, though.

With all the guest stars on this Queens disc, one hopes that the band finally get around to naming the darn thing -- and announcing a release date.
