Alabama Shakes came on the scene in 2012, releasing their debut Boys & Girls in April. While I wasn't as bowled over by the record as others were, it does suggest this is a talented group, albeit one still a little too indebted to their rock and R&B influences. With that said, though, the lead single "Hold On" is one of the year's best tracks.
In March, the old-school soulful rockers will return to the road for a brief two-week run across the western half of the U.S. And they'll be accompanied by several supporting acts: Michael Kiwanuka, Sam Doores and Riley Downing. If you disagree with my mixed assessment of Boys & Girls, you'll definitely want to catch them live.
