Because Billboard has decided -- foolishly, in my opinion -- to pursue a new methodology for how it compiles its Rock Songs chart, the time has come to address how I'm going to cover what's popular in the world of rock. And so I give you the Rock Charts, which will focus on five separate Billboard charts that most closely chronicle the movers and shakers in rock 'n roll. Some of these charts will hover closer to the pop side, while others will embrace hard rock and metal. My hope is that the Rock Charts will do a better job of giving a snapshot of all of rock's many guises as we head into 2013.
With all that said, for the week of October 20, the big winners were Mumford & Sons, who appear on four of the five charts and top three of them. Right now, the biggest rock band in the world is a folk quartet, although Three Days Grace make some noise as well. We'll see what next week holds.
