Red Hot Chili Peppers to Be Inducted Into Rock Hall of Fame by Chris Rock

Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, and now that we know which former members won't be showing up, we can turn our attention to who will be inducting the legendary Los Angeles band. Usually, this is done by a fellow musician who takes to the podium to pontificate about the inductees' lasting contributions, but the Peppers are going with a seemingly odd choice: Comedian Chris Rock will be doing the honors.

Why Rock? There isn't a long-running association between the band and the comic -- at least not one that anyone is aware of -- but, as Grantland points out, Rock did direct the Peppers' "Hump de Bump" video from Stadium Arcadium. Plus, Rock and RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis have remained close enough friends that they've attended Los Angeles Lakers games together.

So perhaps the induction choice isn't quite as strange as it might first seem. And, hey, at least the Peppers have made their selection: The other rock band entering the Hall, Guns N' Roses, haven't yet announced who will be inducting them. It's just endless drama with those guys.
