Two rock bands who came of age in Southern California in the 1980s will be heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N' Roses got word that they'll be part of next year's induction ceremony, which takes place April 14 in Cleveland.
For the Chili Peppers, getting voted into the Rock Hall has been a years-long process. The band first became eligible in 2009, but they didn't receive enough votes for induction that time around. The following year, the band didn't even make the Hall's short list. So, yes, it was a bit of a rocky road, but Anthony Kiedis and the rest of the crew will soon be Hall members.
As for GNR, they were voted into the Rock Hall on their first try, an impressive accomplishment. While the band's post-Use Your Illusion legacy is a bit spotty, Hall voters clearly decided that the group's late-'80s/early-'90s run was impressive enough to warrant induction. However, now the looming question arises of how Guns N' Roses will handle the ceremony. Slash and Axl don't speak, and the original lineup hasn't played together in more than two decades. If nothing else, GNR will help make sure that the April event won't be boring.
