Radiohead have mostly laid low since putting out The King of Limbs, although they will be playing Saturday Night Live next week. But they could be gearing up for a performance at a major festival next year if an online rumor is true. Reportedly, Radiohead are "locked in" for Coachella 2012.
This tidbit came from HITS Daily Double, who said that both Radiohead and No Doubt will be on the bill. At this stage, though, it would be unwise to assume that this is a done deal: As Consequence of Sound, who discovered this item, note, HITS Daily Double reported a few years ago that the Rolling Stones were close to signing up for the 2010 edition, which ended up not happening.
If this news is true, it would be in line with what's expected to be a busier forthcoming touring year for Radiohead. Guitarist Ed O'Brien indicated the group would be on the road in 2012, so a Coachella date would work nicely with that. What's interesting about next year's festival is that it will be the first to run two separate weekends in April, with all the major acts presumably playing both weekends.
As for No Doubt, it's been 10 years since their last album, and while it looked possible we'd get a new disc in 2011, the group have now said it won't come out until next year. Maybe just in time for their Coachella appearance? We'll have to see -- but we'll also have to see if these Coachella rumors are even true.
