Before this week, it seemed that the most unexpected rock pairing of 2011 was going to be Metallica and Lou Reed, but now we have a new champion. That would be Jack White and Insane Clown Posse, the Detroit-area hip-hop duo who have a rabid following but are also mocked for their sophomoric humor and demented-clown face paint. When White announced the White Stripes' breakup back in March, it's doubtful most observers would assume he'd start working with ICP.
They've collaborated on "Leck Mich Im Arsch," which is taken from a Mozart piece of the same name. The single -- which is equal parts rap, rock and classical -- will be dropping September 13 from White's Third Man Records label. However you can hear the song right here right now. (Careful: The lyrics are NSFW.)
Putting aside the oddness of this pairing, how's the song? Well, it definitely should be filed in the "novelty" section of your local record store. It's a goofy melding of ICP's dopey, juvenile rhymes and White's garage-rock aesthetic. (It should be mentioned, though, that White only produced the track: The band JEFF the Brotherhood provide the musical backing.) "Leck Mich Im Arsch" is good for a few chuckles, and it sounds like they had fun making it. But the tune will probably make White Stripes fans miss that band even more than they do already.
