Myles Kennedy Will Split Time Between Slash and Alter Bridge in 2011

Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy knows that the new year will be spent doing double duty fronting his own band and then singing for Slash on the guitarist's forthcoming tour. But the gig that some people might be most interested in him pursuing -- serving as frontman for Slash's band Velvet Revolver -- is one he won't be doing.

"I don't want to be the guy responsible for breaking up a band," Slash said in a recent interview regarding the possibility of Kennedy jumping ship and joining Velvet Revolver. "But we'll find someone. Maybe not somebody known, but some kind of local hero."

Kennedy sang two tracks on this April's Slash, the guitarist's first solo record, which featured a slew of guest vocalists. Apparently Slash will be working on a second disc, but this time Kennedy will be handling all the vocals himself. This isn't entirely surprising since he's been serving the same role on Slash's tours to support the record. And he'll keep doing that in 2011, hitting the road with Slash when he's not touring with Alter Bridge to support their most recent effort, AB III.

According to Slash, Alter Bridge will end their current leg of touring in early January. After that, Kennedy will team up with Slash "and then we start up January through May or April," the guitarist said. "And then he does Alter Bridge from May through -- into July, and then we do July through August, September. And so we're just juggling. And then during those periods that we're off, I'm doing Velvet Revolver and hopefully we'll find a singer and get that together."

Speaking of Velvet Revolver, speculation will continue that the band will eventually bring Kennedy in to the group to be their singer. But it's not that the guys haven't already thought of that: Kennedy has been offered the job twice and turned it down both times. So in the meantime, VR will keep auditioning frontmen -- and Kennedy will try and find time to sleep during his busy '11.
