R.E.M.'s first album since 2008's Accelerate will be coming our way next spring. The alt-rock pioneers made the announcement on their website Monday, mentioning that the group had finished recording the as-yet-untitled record in Berlin "and will now set about mixing it at some point this Fall." The record, like Accelerate, was produced by Jacknife Lee, who was credited with sprucing up the band's sound and returning the group to their rock roots.
This new disc with be R.E.M.'s 15th studio effort, which means that a third of the band's overall output has been recorded since the departure of founding drummer Bill Berry after the release of 1996's New Adventures in Hi-Fi.
