The American Idiot musical went 2-for-3 at Sunday night's Tony Awards, winning awards for Best Scenic Design of a Musical (for Christine Jones) and Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Kevin Adams). But it failed to snag the prize for Best Musical, which went to Memphis, the story of a white DJ raising eyebrows by playing soul music in segregated Tennessee in the 1950s.
But although American Idiot lost out on the big prize in its category, the adaptation of Green Day's acclaimed 2004 concept album was heavily featured on the CBS broadcast of the awards show, with Green Day playing at the beginning of the telecast and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong later introducing a performance by the Idiot cast. And American Idiot will remain in our consciousness for a while longer: The musical will continue its run on Broadway, and there are rumors that the show could eventually get turned into a film.

An ‘American Idiot’ movie would be pretty wild. Thanks for the post.
