Just a few days before heading out for their summer tour to support last year's Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, the Dave Matthews Band are letting their fans know that this next stretch of gigs will be their last for a little while.

In an email to fans that went out today, the band wrote, "As we feel the excitement building for this summer, we wanted to let everyone know that after twenty years of consecutive touring, Dave Matthews Band will be taking 2011 off. We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people's lives, and wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible. We're excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012."

Touring has been a critical part of the group's success -- in fact, they've released more live albums than studio records over their career. What's unclear is if during this break whether Matthews will release another solo album, like he did with 2003's Some Devil, or if he'll work with frequent collaborator Tim Reynolds on a record or tour. But for now, what we do know is that those planning on seeing DMB this summer will probably have more reason to savor this next set of dates.
