Album number seven from Weezer, Raditude, made its debut on the Billboard album chart this week and, perhaps appropriately, landed at No. 7. It was the highest-charting rock album on the Billboard 200, but Raditude's sales of 66,000 seemed alarmingly low, especially considering that their last album, 2008's Weezer (The Red Album), moved 126,000 units in its first week. Additionally, Weezer was selling Raditude on Amazon for the low-low price of $3.99 around its release, which would presumably help juice sales. But despite discount prices and a cheeky promotion involving the creation of the "Weezer Snuggie," Raditude hasn't excited fans like previous album have.
In other chart news, the New Moon soundtrack continues to hang in the Top 10, falling to No. 10 this week. With sales of 52,000, the album is now hovering around 340,000 total units sold in less than a month. With the New Moon film opening next week, look for the soundtrack to get a jumpstart with consumers in the near future.
