Chris Cornell Album Delayed Again – Now What?

Thursday November 6, 2008
Lost amid the Election Day hoopla Tuesday was the news that Scream, Chris Cornell’s Timbaland-produced album, didn’t come out November 4 as had been previously announced. (“I went to Virgin Megastore because I read it was being released today, only to find out it’s not,” one unhappy reader wrote to me.) After initially being pushed back from October 14 to November, now it appears that Scream won’t see the light of day until at least February 2009, although no official release date has been confirmed.

For his part, Cornell is currently touring with Timbaland, and on Wednesday he posted a blog entry that referenced the presidential election, tying the nation’s endorsement of Obama’s mantra of hope to his own fans’ enthusiasm during the live shows, which feature material from Scream. “I don’t care what anyone says,” Cornell wrote. “What [Timbaland and I] did together is different than anything that has been done before, and I saw goodness in the people that came to the events with the willingness to be open to something different than what they are used to.”

I think it’s fair to say most fans are at least open to something different from Cornell, who is trying to make a transition from grunge icon to pop star. But I do wonder how much longer those fans are willing to wait for it.

I was also very dissapointed. Was there a reason why it was delayed yet again? Anything more about it from Cornell?

No reason as to why. Unless I missed it, Cornell has yet to say anything about why it’s been delayed. The web has tons of rumors about its delay, but nothing concrete.

Maybe Scream will be the next Chinese Democracy?
